25-Foot-Tall Steel Jesus

Field review by the editors.

Kansas City, Missouri

Giant statues are built to be seen, and when this 25-foot-tall steel Jesus went up next to I-35 it was viewed by millions. But the statue's backers were unhappy with the location's lack of intimacy, so they bought a plot of land at the back end of a housing subdivision, called it Divine Mercy Park, and trucked their giant statue there. Jesus is a surprising sight at the end of a lightly traveled cul-de-sac, and also a unique representation among America's mega-Christs, with excessively long rays bursting downward from his sacred heart.
