SkyBridge

Field review by the editors.

Gatlinburg, Tennessee

Opened on May 17, 2019, SkyBridge originally claimed that it was the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in North America -- then learned that a bridge in British Columbia was over 100 feet longer. Still, it is the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the USA, 680 feet, which is longer than the St. Louis Gateway Arch is high.

SkyBridge.

The bridge begins at the top of Crockett Mountain (you must ride a chairlift to get to it), and at its highest point, 140 feet above the trees, the wood floor of the bridge is replaced with a 15-foot-long section made of clear glass. Because this is a bridge to nowhere, visitors who make it across the glass to the other side have to turn around and cross the glass again to get back.

Although the bridge is closed to pedestrians when winds exceed 30 mph, odds are that an extensive smartphone graveyard will form beneath SkyBridge.
