Interstate Space Capsule
Casa Grande, Arizona
Jack Millard played an unnamed crew member in the 2006 J. J. Abrams' Star Trek (reboot) movie.
Twelve years later he was driving on Interstate 10 between Phoenix and Tucson and spotted an abandoned cement mixer in a roadside pasture. It had been sitting there since the 1980s, but Jack saw it through fresh eyes. To him, it looked like a space capsule had landed in the field. On a whim he tracked down the property owner, and in February 2018 he transformed the mixer, with lots of silver paint, into the "Casa Grande Capsule," complete with a cargo parachute he bought at a military surplus store.
Jack said that he hoped that travelers would see the capsule and think about how America put men on the moon, even though America landed all its moon capsules in water. The desert air should keep the capsule looking fresh for years to come.
