JFK's Happy Texas Motorcade
Alamo Heights, Texas
Forgotten fact: JFK had an open-car motorcade in Texas in November 1963 in which he wasn't shot and killed. It happened right here, the day before his assassination, when he was driven past Cambridge Elementary School in his familiar convertible.
On November 21, 2019, the 56th anniversary of the Alamo Heights motorcade, a monument was erected to mark the spot. Six feet high and 12 feet wide, it incorporates a physical "gap" between a bronze-etched photo of JFK's happy motorcade here -- the familiar convertible with the foursome of JFK, Jackie, Governor and Mrs. Connally can be clearly seen -- and a plaque describing his tragic motorcade in Dallas the following day. The plaque is titled, "24-Hour Gap Separated Happiness From Tears."
