Hypertour '94

1994 Hypertour - Los Angeles to New York

This is one of the Roadside America team's "classic" cross-country, high-speed vacations, starting on the Pacific Coast one sunny morning in 1994 and ending in Manhattan a week later. The Hotwired Hypertour was notable as our first attempt at daily on-the-road publishing to the early Web (wired.com and aol.com) of our attraction reports, photos and videos. It was the web's first cross-country virtual vacation. Roadside America authors took turns driving, accompanied by New York Times writer Michael Kaufman, who reported on the experience in "These Three Brake For Mummies."

Though some of the tourist attractions and quirky landmarks have since closed or disappeared, many are still alive and kicking. We've updated where necessary....Begin
