Thriller House

Field review by the editors.

Los Angeles, California

Carroll Ave. has its own Los Angeles historical marker, "Highest Concentration of Victorian Era Residences," but locals know it as the Haunted House District of L.A. -- thanks to the homes' frequent appearances as eerie exteriors in Hollywood productions. This particular house survives in the pop culture hive mind because it was where Ola Ray fled from the zombies at the end of Michael Jackson's 1983 "Thriller" music video. Directed by John Landis, it's still regarded as the most influential MTV video of all time.

For a younger generation, two buildings east on the same block is the "Halliwell Manor" house seen in the TV series, Charmed.
