Tank Woman
Fort Campbell, Kentucky
Kentucky's Fort Campbell currently oversees the combat readiness of the Army's 101st Airborne Division, but in its early World War II days it was strictly a ground-based, dusty training camp for the armored calvary's tank crews. The Pratt Museum at the Fort houses hundreds of displays recounting its history, including its role as home for three of the Army's armored dvivisions. Exhibits are liberally populated with custom wax dummies, including a WAC corporal standing in front of an enlarged technical drawing of an M5 tank.
The WAC wax figure is depicted as wide-eyed, a bit stunned -- perhaps because just off frame, the muzzle of an actual M5 tank points at her head.
