National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
The National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum has many Western wonders, including the eye patch and hat that John Wayne wore as one-eyed marshal Rooster Cogburn in the 1969 film, True Grit, and a pair of Ronald Reagan's President of the United States cowboy boots (never worn).
Also here: outdoor fake cliff dwellings and supposedly the world's largest collection of barbed wire (Although the barbed wire museum in Texas may dispute that).
The museum is known for its extensive collection of Western art. The most famous example is the original James Earle Fraser "End of the Trail" statue, made of lumber, plaster, and chicken wire for the 1915 San Francisco World's Fair, and later found outside of that city in a mud pit.
