Captain Kirk's Cigars
Riverside, Iowa
Among the treasured artifacts in the Star Trek Voyage Home Museum -- which stands in Riverside, Iowa, the future birthplace of captain James T. Kirk -- is a showcase of relics from September 2004, when William Shatner (the original Captain Kirk) came to town. He said he was starring in a movie, "Invasion Iowa," but in fact he was filming a prank reality series for a cable channel. Riverside was upset when it discovered the truth, but Shatner was a good sport, donated $100,000 to the town, and all was forgiven.
Among the mementoes on display are a Shatner uncashed $4.00 check for coffee and doughnuts at the Kwik-N-EZ mini-mart; two cigars he smoked with Scotty Reggo, a local who chauffeured him around town; and a pair of flesh-colored briefs, autographed by Shatner, that were worn by a guy who ran around on camera pretending to be naked.
