Sculptures in the Wild
Lincoln, Montana
Sculptures in the Wild is the vision of Rick Dunkerly, a local knifemaker, who wanted to use conceptual art to reflect the industry -- mostly logging -- and nature of this part of Montana. The park covers 28 wooded acres.
One of the sculptures, which are made by a number of different artists, is an old sawmill scrap wood burner outfitted with solar cells and LEDs so it glows when it gets dark. Another sculpture is constructed with 30 tons of newspaper. A third was described by its creator as "a love motel for insects."
Most of the artworks are big and sturdy enough to be climbed on and scrambled over, which is not discouraged.
