Statue # 7: Andrew Jackson
Rapid City, South Dakota
Andrew Jackson (1829-1837) came to the presidency as a war hero, and his statue depicts him in uniform, with riding boots and a sword tucked under his cape. He stands with a defiant expression on his face, arms folded, in front of a road sign directing traffic to out-of-town attractions. The positioning was probably not intentional, but Jackson certainly seems to be telling travelers to stay in town and look at all the President statues.
Amazing Arcana of the Presidents
Jackson's pet parrot was removed from his funeral because it was swearing.
