Spencer Station: Phillips 66
Miller, Missouri
Spencer Station was built over several years in the late 1920s by Sidney Casey, because Route 66 ran right in front of it. Sometimes venerated as the Mother Road's first strip mall, it eventually included a general store, garage, Phillips 66 gas station, barber shop, and cafe.
Route 66 was realigned elsewhere in 1961, and the buildings gradually were abandoned. Restoration began in 2008 and picked up in 2022 when the property was purchased by Ed Klein of the online group Route 66 World. He and his wife Stephanie are working to eventually restore all of the buildings at Spencer Station to their peak Mother Road appearance.
