Otis Redding's Musical Monument
Gray, Georgia
Singer/songwriter Otis Redding (1941-1967), "The King of Soul," was successful as a rhythm and blues artist -- but he didn't become a superstar until after he'd died in a plane crash, and his song "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" became a Number One hit.
Redding is typically associated with the city of Macon down the road, but Gray was the place he considered to be home, at least according to his daughter, who dedicated this musical monument in September of 2015.
Intended to be more than just a marker with a name, the music legend landmark was designed to resemble a seven-foot-square album cover, and offers an interactive panel on its back side that plays six Otis Redding songs.
