Frog Head.

Freddy: Big Frog Head

Field review by the editors.

Altoona, Iowa

Created in 2013 by local artist John Brommel -- a former steamfitter -- who also sculpted Altoona's big Moai Dude head. Appears to be poking its head out of some fake marsh weeds in the lawn in front of the town library.

Named "Freddy," the leopard frog with giant globular eyes is constructed of mostly recycled materials. It weighs 500 pounds, although a living frog this size would weigh several tons.

Freddy was repainted in 2018. Disturbingly realistic, which is perhaps why additional frogs -- which were initially discussed -- have yet to be built.
