Large Bronze Rattlesnake
Tallahassee, Florida
Florida A&M University calls its teams the "Rattlers," and this one is seven times life size, eight feet high, and weighs nearly a ton. It's coiled as if about to strike, with an upraised rattle, big fangs, and evil eyes.
The snake was sculpted by Floridian Brad Cooley Jr., who said that the snake looks as real as it does because he worked from a real snake he found in the family freezer. Cooley said that his dad, also a sculptor, put it there around 2010, although he didn't explain why.
Despite its murderous appearance, the snake is meant to be an interactive photo-op for University students and visitors. It's so hefty that it had to be hoisted into position by crane in January 2021.
