Tiny Tim's Star, and Others
Minneapolis, Minnesota
Open since 1970, the First Avenue nightclub has lined its outside walls with stars celebrating over 500 of its most famous performers. Tiny Tim (real name: Herbert Butros Khaury) shines bright among this firmament of popular entertainers; he rode the crest of the late 1960s camp wave to fame with his ukulele and falsetto version of "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" (and his marriage to Miss Vicki on The Tonight Show).
Tiny Tim's star is also especially poignant, since Minneapolis is where he dropped dead in 1996 singing "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" at a gala benefit hosted by the city's Women's Club. He's entombed in Minneapolis's Lakewood Cemetery. This is his only known Minnesota public memorial.
