Twisted Tiny Church
Pilot Point, Texas
The twisted tiny church was a Covid-19 project for Chris Duncan, co-owner of the Lizzy Gator event center where it stands. The idea, he said, was to build a wedding chapel for people who wanted something "out of the norm." It worked; despite the pandemic, several weddings were held at the chapel in the summer of 2021.
A design mix of Dr. Caligari and Dr. Seuss, the crazy-angled chapel leans one way while the bell tower leans another and the bell itself leans in yet a third direction. The windows on each side wall are skewed to the roof line as well as to each other. Duncan said that no two pieces of lumber in the church are the same length. He also built a Steampunk electric chair in the event center to entertain visitors.
