West Virginia Bigfoot Museum
Sutton, West Virginia
This museum is just down the street from a museum devoted to another famous local creature, the Flatwoods Monster. The West Virginia Bigfoot Museum showcases possible Bigfoot skulls, West Virginia footprint casts, a full-size Bigfoot mannequin, and a compiled binder and map of local sightings. Also, on occasion, a guy walks around in a hairy Bigfoot suit.
The owners claim that the museum started when a six-foot-tall wood carving of Bigfoot was delivered to their store. So many customers began talking about their personal Bigfoot encounters that the owners decided to section off part of the building into a Bigfoot museum. Now the store sells Bigfoot snow globes and pillow cases.
According to the owners, the Bigfoot of West Virginia differs from those out west because it's not "mean," but also not particularly friendly. It just wants to be left alone, like a lot of folks in the hills of West Virginia.
