Philip Seymour Hoffman Statue
Rochester, New York
Hands in his pockets, messenger bag slung over his shoulder, a bronze version of Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman strolls along a sidewalk. It was sculpted by Scottish artist David A. Annand, and commissioned by James Declan Tobin, a film producer who became friends with Hoffman's family after the actor OD'd in 2014. Hoffman played eccentric character roles in many independent films, such as Boogie Nights, but also Hollywood's Twister and Hunger Games and in stage productions.
Annand originally planned to make the statue heroic scale, but instead made it life-size so that people could pose with it.
Unveiled in May 2022, the statue was originally supposed to be erected somewhere in New York City, preferably in Greenwich Village, where Hoffman often strolled looking just like he does in the statue. But since he grew up in Fairport, 15 minutes from Rochester, it was decided to permanently place the statue here.
