Trump, SpongeBob, and Other Sculptures
Westport, Massachusetts
Roger Chandanais, who is in his 90s, has for many years filled the small front yard of his former auto repair business (now owned by his son) with welded metal sculptures. His late wife owned a children's dance studio on the property, so he began welding different versions of SpongeBob SquarePants -- and then kept going. Caterpillars, spiders, robots, and dragons followed. Then in 2015 he began adding welded tributes to Donald Trump, who once wished Roger a Happy Father's Day.
Roger has said that people sometimes steal his sculptures. He's not sure if the thieves are fans or foes of his art, and he doesn't care. He just keeps making more of them.
