1860 Territorial Jail
Seligman, Arizona
This jail is a simple log cabin building, open to inspection by the public, with a room in front for a guard and a barred room in the back for a prisoner. According to its handwritten accompanying sign, it "at one time held such notorious outlaws like Seligman Sam, Three Finger Jack, James Younger, and many more." The sign also mentions four incarcerated Indians who escaped by tunneling out. "Four days later they were dead after a shootout with marshal Carl 'Curly' Bane."
Some naysayers claim that the jail is a fake, built by the Roadkill Cafe next door. Seems like that would have been a lot of trouble, building something as substantial as a hoosegow just for a photo-op.
A smaller jail-on-wheels stands next to the 1860 Jail in the Cafe parking lot, designed for comedy tourist snapshots.
