Thunderbunny
Wilton Manors, Florida
Thunderbunny, named that way for non-evident reasons by its artist, Hunt Slonem, stands 14 feet tall, weighs 800 pounds, and is covered in 6,500 tiny pieces of metallic blue glass. It took a year to create, and was unveiled at Justin Flippen Park in May 2022. Slonem was happy; he wanted Thunderbunny outdoors where a lot of people could see it.
One person, however, was not happy: Florida man Derek Alan Modrok, who in May 2023 deliberately ran over Thunderbunny with his car. According to NBC Miami, Modrok told police that he targeted the big rabbit because he hated Justin Flippen, namesake of the park and the town's former mayor. Flippen had died in 2020, but Modrok said that he was still angry at the mayor "for the birds that we hear."
Hunt Slonem called the whole episode "really bizarre," and had Thunderbunny restored and back in the Park in 2024.
