Anna and Amos: Seated Amish Titans
Myerstown, Pennsylvania
A 10-foot-high seated fiberglass Amish couple, Anna and Amos, were built by Rodman Shutt in the 1960s (Shutt later went on to sculpt Maine's Big F Indian). Anna and Amos, waving a friendly greeting, sat side-by-side outside the Roadside America miniature village in Shartlesville for decades. When the miniature village closed in November 2020, Anna and Amos were purchased by Andrew King and trucked 25 miles to the parking lot of his crafts store in Myerstown.
Then in November 2021, an arsonist burned off Amos's head.
We read about the fiery assault and forwarded the information to fiberglass artist Mark Cline. Mark, a fan of Shutt's pioneering work, got in touch with Andrew King, and, working from photos, built an identical head for Amos. In July 2023 he successfully completed the re-heading of Anna and Amos.
