Baby Arch

Field review by the editors.

Warren, Pennsylvania

Warren has not one, but two mini-size versions of the Gateway Arch in St. Louis. That's because nearly 300 boilermakers at the Pittsburgh-Des Moines Steel Co. in Warren spent several years in the 1960s banging out most of the steel for the outer skin of the 630-foot-high monument.

In 2012 the steelworkers came out of retirement to build this 1:45-scale replica out of stainless steel, 14 feet high by 14 feet wide. It's a monument to Warren's claim to be the "Birthplace of the Arch," and far more shiny than the big one in St. Louis.
