Tire Creatures
Littlestown, Pennsylvania
Large sculptures have been made from used tires outside a tire store by Noah Russell, who works there. There's a dragon (which can spit fire) and a Headless Horseman, and smaller tire sculptures, such as chairs, couches, turtles, spiders, snails, pigs, and the obligatory Minion.
Noah began sculpting with tires in 2018. His tools are principally an X-Acto knife and his imagination. He saves old tires that he knows will be useful -- whitewalls for the dragon's teeth, and horns, or knobby turf tires for its scales. He's also learned that steel-belted radials are nearly impossible to cut, so he tries to avoid them whenever possible.
The Headless Horseman, he's said, was his most difficult artwork since people tend to be more particular about the accuracy of a human form than that of an animal (or dragon), even if the human has no head.
