Ringo's Giant Shiny Hand

A big chrome hand gives a peace sign, modeled on Ringo Starr's, who seems to flash his v-shaped fingers whenever he's photographed. There's only one other big hand like this on public view in the U.S., and it's near Ringo's home in Beverly Hills.

The average tourist might reasonably ask: how did this oversize chrome-plated version of Liverpool's most famous drummer's hand wind up on a small college campus in upstate New York? The answer has nothing to do with rock history or peace and love; it's because the drummer in a Beatles tribute band happened to be friends with both Ringo and the college president.

The hand was unveiled in October 2023.

Directions:: On the small campus of Daemen University. I-290 exit 7A. Head west on NY-5/Main St. Drive one mile. Turn right at the stoplight onto Campus Drive. Drive a quarter-mile. Turn left onto Eton Lane, then left at the stop sign onto Campus Drive, then an immediate right between the brick buildings onto the campus. You should see the hand ahead, on the left.
