Buzz Aldrin: Hotshot Pilot
Bryan, Texas
Unveiled in November 2023, this bronze statue of Apollo 11 moon-man Buzz Aldrin depicts him as he looked in the 1950s, when he was a pilot at Bryan Air Force Base. He stands on a circular granite base representing the Earth, and embedded in "Aldrin Plaza" in front of him is the flight path that he followed to orbit, land, and return from the Moon. An accompanying plaque identifies four other future astronauts and astronaut wannabes who flew at Bryan Air Force Base; three of them, including Gus Grissom, died in training accidents in the 1960s.
Buzz, age 93, attended his statue's dedication ceremony and used part of his speech to suggest that he'd be available for the U.S. Space Force.
