Moo-Rice: Giant Wooden Cow
Lima, Ohio
The cartoon heifer "Moo-Rice" is the long-time mascot of Ohio's annual Allen County Fair. In 2025, for the Fair's 175th birthday, the city of Lima decided to turn the cow into a permanent resident. A 12-member "build team" from Bear Hollow Wood Carvers, a regular vendor at the Fair, took on the job. With shingles for cow hide, big cartoon eyes, and a pair of Converse Chuck Taylor All-Stars, Moo-Rice required only a week to carve, paint, and nail into place. In 2024 the same team had sculpted Otis the giant wooden Sasquatch in French Lick, Indiana.
