An outdoor water-filled pool shaped like the state of Alabama.

Alabama-shaped Reflecting Pool

Field review by the editors.

Anniston, Alabama

Pools shaped like the states they are in are most effective when the states are almost pool-shaped, yet not simple rectangles. Alabama's irregular quadrilateral, with the little dangler at the bottom, is a good example.

This shallow reflecting pool is the centerpiece of Centennial Memorial Park, devoted to remembering fallen veterans. The Alabama Veterans of Vietnam Memorial Wall is 36-ft. long and made of black granite. Two other walls feature the names of Alabama veterans.

Coincidentally, there once was a nearby hotel that featured an Alabama-shaped pool, but that had been demolished according to locals we spoke with.
