Eau Claire, Wisconsin: Ship Shaped Car Wash (Gone)

Car wash named "Ship Shape" was literally in a ship shape. A cartoon ship, though -- not seaworthy. Tragically converted to a unadorned car wash.
Just south of the Chippewa River on US 12/W. Clairemont Ave.
2015: Converted to a really dull regular car wash.

Ship Shaped Car Wash

The Ship Shaped Car Wash is no longer ship shaped.

That's one way to get removed from everyone's travel plans...

Ship Shape Car Wash.

Ship Shaped Car Wash

Last summer, while poking around Wisconsin looking for interesting things to photograph, I came across this architectural gem on the outskirts of Eau Claire. In this case a photo pretty much says all that really needs to be said... Go here and your car will be "ship shape" when you leave. Needless to say, with a name like "Ship Shape," a building shaped like a ship could be the only logical design choice. It seems somewhat ironic that this thing has better lines than a modern cruise ship, most of which seem to have used a shoebox for styling inspiration. Car washes are supposed to be boxy, ships are supposed to look like, well, ships.
