Stump House in 1939.

Stump House

My father, Melvin Edgar Hedborg, took a picture back in August 1939. I was going through his photo album and saw this; did a search on "Stump House Eureka CA" and got your website saying the Stump House was closed down. Thought you might like to add it since the photo is older and taken from a different angle than yours.

It's from the Golden Age of attractions in hollowed out trees!

Stump House

The Stump House was acquired by the Blue Ox Millworks. They have some wonderful, funky building to tour.

We noticed a large Paul Bunyan statue in a photo of the Blue Ox Community School, north of US Hwy 101 at 1 X St., Eureka, CA. 95501.

World Famous Stump House - Gone

From the Archives: We visited the World Famous Stump House & Cheese House in 1996, after seeing it in postcards from the mid-1960s. It was a 50 ft. long home carved from a redwood log. It was beat to splinters, closed, and for sale when we finally saw it in person, languishing on Broadway at Clark St. in Eureka. The World Famous Stump House caught on fire in later years and the remnants were removed.
