They are back! It was a contest that our town is doing. The vases are set up all over town, so really its like a scavenger hunt. Each vases has its own design. You can even find one in our Mall.
[Elaine, 02/05/2008]The world's largest vase was produced by the Weller Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio, for display at the St. Louis Exposition in 1904. It was an Aurelian vase standing 7 1/2 feet tall (including the 6" display platform) and weighed over 400 pounds.
In 1977, it was sold to an out-of-state collector. Its value today is estimated at $250,000. [Source: "The Encyclopedia of Weller Pottery," by Sharon and Bob Huxford]
[Patricia Mathews, 09/05/1998]The World's Largest Vase is at the Zane Gray museum in (or just outside of) Zanesville, OH (also home of the World Famous Y Bridge), I think on Route 40. That section of Ohio was the center of the American art pottery industry (Roseville, Weller, Owens, McCoy, etc.) from about the 1880s to the 1950s. The purchase and placement of that vase was made possible with donations from Pottery Lovers Inc, a collectors' club, a couple of years ago.
