We didn't know about Caro's downtown Witch Museum until after the owner moved and the property was sold (thanks to Douglas Petteys for the tip) . The curators, a woman known as "Anonka," along with her daughter Tammra Jocham, operated the Witch Museum for five years on Rt. M-81 in Caro, Michigan. Anonka, a practicing witch, was a controversial figure in the area. Local business placed wooden crosses in their windows to counteract the witches' presence, according to Anonka. She said in a 2003 address to a Michigan atheist organization: "The purpose of the museum is to dispel the Christian myth that there are witches that are evil, can fly on brooms and turn people into toads. We have a dungeon that takes you back into the bloody history of the Christian church, exposing the churches terrorism and money racketeering in hideous, factual detail." The museum officially closed in January 2005; in late March, workers removed stone gargoyles above the museum entrance, to the delight of passing drivers.
We're sorry we missed that dungeon.
