This exceptionally shaggy dog lived alone at The Berkeley Pit for 17 years. The miners respected his toughness and named him "Auditor" because he would always show up when least expected.

There are now three statues of The Auditor: one in the Chamber of Commerce, one outside (heavily rusted), and another in the town archives. The archives were closed during my visit to Butte, but it's interesting to see how many sculptures one pooch inspired.
