In 1966, Sifto Salt, which operates a huge salt mine under the harbor, erected a monument for the 100th anniversary of the discovery of salt. A transparent-sided cairn repels celebratory lickers from profaning the salt obelisk it contains.

In 1966, Sifto Salt erected a cairn marking the centennial of the discovery of salt in Goderich. The cairn sits on top of a bluff overlooking the town's harbour and salt mine. The cairn features a gigantic chunk of salt. A nearby plaque tells of the history of the discovery of salt in Goderich.
