I too am a skeptic when hearing about the accident of the bus with children in it, until I visited the location in 1998. I heard that the bus went over a cliff. The experience I had was the same as far as the car going backwards. I said "Of course, gravity can do this to any vehicle," until I sprinkled baby powder on the hood of my car. And sure enough, what do I see? Yes, a child's hand print -- no lie, I wish now I had my camera with me to take a photo of it for proof. Needless to say I do believe that something happened there of that nature...
[Kacie, 09/14/2009]I drive by this hill every day, and yes, it does seem to pull you up hill. I live 2-3 miles from the hill (Pleasant View) and know the story about the children on the bus that got hit by the truck. Whether the story is true or not, I can tell you one fact. The fact is in its name, Gravity Hill. It may look like you're going up hill, but the hill on the road in front of you (Rt. 177) is what makes it look like your sloped downhill. I still think that it's a pretty neat spot, and if your ever close by, give it a run!
[Lou, 06/28/2009]It is all within the laws of gravity. There is also a slight hill at Windermere and Pleasant Valley at the white line. When you put the car in neutral, you first drift downhill, then back uphill. I spoke to someone whose parents have lived there for a long time. There never was a bus crash at all at that location. I used to live only 2 miles from this location and have passed it many times.
[Sean, 03/23/2009]The story told to me was that a school bus, leaving a sporting event, pulled into the path of an oncoming truck. The spirits of children, in an effort to prevent the same from happening to you, push your car back away from the intersection. It's a small hill but you do apparently drift backwards, uphill! You don't sit and wait, it happens as soon as you are in neutral and release your brake.
[Paul, 02/13/2009]Very small hill at the intersection of Hwy 177 and Pleasant view road. I was going to be in the area, so I thought it would be interesting to check out. Being a skeptic I did believe that the laws of physics could be broken. But sure enough put the car in neutral and we actually backed up the hill. Not a very traveled road, so it's pretty easy to try.
