Dutch Haven - Shoo-Fly Pies

Closing permanently on 12/31/22 per owner.

[MaryRuth, 01/22/2023]

Dutch Haven's website insists that the closure is temporary, so perhaps a new owner is ready to take over the pie-making.

Dutch Haven - Shoo-Fly Pies

It's a gift shop that is dusty and dirty. It's just cheesy trinkets that have nothing to do with the Lancaster area. The bakery isn't really a bakery like most would consider a bakery -- it's more about cheap trinkets.

Dutch Haven

Very commercial shop with trinkets. Besides the baked goods, I doubt anything is authentic to the Dutch or Amish but it was a cute little roadside stop with some other tourist trap shops next door.

Don't leave without getting a hot soft pretzel. I had to stand around all weekend while my friend gawked at faux Amish wares sold in all the commercialized stores, but this one pretzel cut my irritation in half. So good.

Dutch Haven - Shoo-Fly Pies

Another photogenic sight along a stretch of the Lincoln Highway in eastern Pennsylvania, Dutch Haven is part of a cluster of businesses in "The Village of Dutch Delights" (which includes "The Outhouse"). Dutch Haven, here since 1946, looks like a big, cartoony windmill (the blades turn) and bills itself as "The place that made shoo-fly pie famous." Come inside and enjoy a free sample of Shoo-Fly Pie.
