Lee Vining, California: Upside Down House
Tourist attraction (1956-1968), created by Nellie Bly OBryan, inspired by children's books. Saved in 2000 and moved here. More like a weathered shed than a house, but it is upside down, along with the explanatory historical plaque.

The house is open even when the museum is closed. It's possible to step inside. The details are impressive: a cat, a chamber pot near the bed, and an upside-down birdhouse on an outside wall are examples. The sign includes a picture from Nellie Bly's career in silent movies.

I was driving through Lee Vining and stopped at the Mono County Historical Museum. The Upside Down House is on display on the museum's front lawn. It was a nice diversion for the family.

There's an attention to detail in the Upside Down House: a whole room inside nailed to the ceiling, complete with pots and pans, a bed, chairs, and even a wash basin. Even the dedication plaque is upside down.

Bunch of old stuff and, well... an upside down house. It's a little house. A little upside down house with a great view.
