Dairy World in Cranston, Rhode Island, was closed permanently in August 2000. I just spoke with a receptionist there and she told me the dairy was bought by a larger company that has no interest in continuing to operate the tours or the "Cowlection" Gift Shop. There's a possibility that the fixtures will be auctioned off at some point. Whether that would include the talking cow or the six-foot-tall milk carton she didn't say. The adjacent ice cream shack and carousel will reopen at the end of March 2001 under a lease agreement.
[Christopher Martin, 02/26/2001]"There's no place on earth like Nature's Best Dairy World" It also says, "Be greeted by our talking cow!" The exhibits include a tour of the processing plant, an informative video ("Music, sights, sounds and special effects make this a video everyone will remember and want to see again and again."), The Evolution of the Paperboard Milk Carton AND The History of Refrigerated Transportation. We didn't get to go in (only open 5am to 9 am on Sunday) but you could see the whole exhibit, except for the actual plant tour, through the glass. A life-size cow, a giant carton of milk and signs describing how much a cow eats in a day. There's also a moooovalous gift shop. Admission is only one dollar and that's only if you want the plant tour.
