Gaffney, South Carolina: Peachoid Water Tower

This giant watersphere is shaped and painted to look like a peach -- but some still think that it resembles a big butt.

The Peachoid - A new view

I did get a good picture of the Peachoid's 'butt'. What I didn't realize is the tank is actually shaped like a butt, it's not just an illusion using paint and shadows. Gaffney is serious about their Peachoid!!

The peachoid was also the 1981 Steel Tank of the Year. Oh ... and the area around and just below the Peachoid is a park where you can sit and ponder the peachoid.

Hey! I have some more info about Gaffney, SC's Peachoid. Every year, they have a festival underneath the "Big Butt In the Sky" with live bands, food, rides, etc. It's sometime in the spring or summer. I live just south of the giant peach, so I see it all the time.

Peachoid Water Tower

"Last summer I drove from Boston to Atlanta for the Olympics. Any car trip of that distance offers many possibilities for roadside surrealism (e.g., Dinosaur Land, Luray Caverns, and South of the Border). But early one morning on I-85 West near Gaffney, South Carolina, I saw what looked like the world's largest butt bending over the horizon. Unfortunately it was merely the Gaffney Peachoid, a million-gallon water tower. Not only does the Peachoid provide water, it also serves as a reminder to all who pass that South Carolina is the largest peach producer in the South, _not_ Georgia."
