The Rattlesnake Kate dress is now on display in the new downtown Greeley museum in the old Greeley Tribune building. This dress was made from the skins and rattles of over 50 rattlensnakes, some of over 100 killed by this woman in a few hours on the prairie southwest of Greeley.
She wore it for some time, and donated it to the museum on her demise in the 1950s. She also fashioned a rattle necklace and a pair of snakeskin shoes. She also did a taxidermy job on one rattlesnake that is also on display in a protective case with the dress.
The dress was at the Centennial Village in Greeley until its transfer to the new museum, where it is much more accessible -- six days a week year round. Admission to the museum, that includes many other permanent and traveling exhibits, is free.
