9/11 World Trade Center Memorial

Thirty-foot stainless steel towers were WTC replicas, paying tribute to Manhattan's 9/11 victims. But the memorial was poorly designed and cheaply built, and in 2019 the city finally tore it down.

Twin Towers 9/11 Memorial

Green Bay bulldozed its 9/11 memorial on April 4. It had stood for less than 14 years. It was never popular. The Twin Towers were too skinny, the somber inscription mixed up the flight numbers of two of the planes, and it turned out that the Pentagon-shaped base was faced in cheap, indoor granite, so that the engraved names of the victims were no match for Green Bay weather, and had become illegible. The city debated the pros and cons of fixing the memorial for years, then finally decided to tear it down.

The Memorial is located at the Neville Public Museum. The towers are holding up well, but the stone that was used is deteriorating.

It's nice to be outside of my home state of NY and see others remember. So many others besides New Yorkers perished.

Twin Towers 9/11 Memorial

If it is a cold day and the wind is out of the east and you are standing on the third or fourth stair next to the Neville Public Museum reception desk, you can look up and see something really eerie. The smokestack is hidden behind the two towers and the steamy white clouds appear to be streaming out from the two buildings.
