The Bell Witch Cave

My mother and I went to the farm/cave in the early 2000s. I had heard about the Bell Witch my whole life and was so excited to go. My mother was nervous (a very spiritual woman - she does not like to mess around with the supernatural). She picked a small handful-sized bouquet of flowers from her yard to bring as an offering.

We spoke with the woman who owns the property, and sat at her picnic bench looking through photos and hearing stories about the town and the history of the farm. We were the only ones there. The woman led us down the path and into the cave. We explored a bit (very cool, whether you are into the witch factor or not). In one of the cave's "rooms," my mother placed her bouquet of flowers up in a crevice and we continued down a passageway.

When we came back through, the flowers were GONE. There was NO ONE in that cave except the three of us. Whaaaaat......!!!! Awesome.

Bell Witch Cave

The Bell Witch Cave is still going strong. They close every year on Halloween for the season, so I was lucky enough to be there on Halloween. News crews were out covering the caves for Halloween stories. The guides make you sit through an orientation where they show you (what looks like doctored) photos, but small kids buy into the myth. The cave was nothing special except for the supposed Indian grave.

Bell Witch Cave

The Bell Witch Cave is a very historic place. Native Americans are buried there and the Trail of Tears went through the farm. There is a feminine protective spirit guarding the cave. Visitors who take anything from the cave have very bad luck and return their items posthaste. It also is a nice place to visit for it's natural setting. Wild turkeys, deer and other wildlife are in abundance. Take a chance -- you never know WHAT might grab you about it!

Bell Witch Cave

In the summer of 1996, my friend Vicki and I decided to find the Bell Witch Cave in Adams, Tennessee. Adams is so tiny we actually got lost trying to find it. We finally found Adams and had to ask for directions to the cave. Since we had both recently read a book about the Bell Witch, we were scared/excited to be visiting the location of all these supernatural events. The teenaged tour guide led us through the cave (there were no other people on the tour -- this made it creepier) and told us the story of the Bell Witch. Although we did not feel any supernatural forces, the cave is rather creepy.

I was disappointed that we could not see what is left of the old Bell family house. We were told that the overgrowth of woods is filled with snakes during the summer.
