Lost Hills, California: Last Place James Dean Stopped for Gas

At Blackwells Corner he topped off his tank, then sped off to his death site. In his memory you can buy "James Dean's Last Stop" -branded snacks at the mini-mart.

Last Place James Dean Stopped for Gas

The shop is full of fudge, nuts, and a real old-school diner wannabe restaurant filled with speculative farmers. Great selection of pricey snacks and '50s posters and tin signs.

James Dean points to gas prices.

Gas station with gas to buy. Expensive gas at that.

Cutout James Dean doesn't look happy. On Sept. 30, 1955, this was the last place he was seen alive. But on a cheerier note, 1955 gas was about 25 cents a gallon!

Big James Dean cutout.

Stopped by there after seeing various other great roadside attractions. Looks like they've added a new James Dean pointing for you to go into the gas station. Was kind of eerie to take the road from the gas station to his crash site.

In Lost Hills, the "Last Place James Dean Stopped for Gas." A very cool sign!

Blackwells Corner is actually at the intersection of Hwy 33 and Hwy 46. The old store was torn down 6/18/08 to make room for the new store, diner, and I hope soon-to-be gas station. The big billboard type bust of James Dean still stands, but the World's Largest Parking Lot sign was down.

The James Dean monument and Jack Ranch Cafe actually sit in Cholame, about 25 miles west of Blackwells Corner, just west of Hwy 41.
