Wasta, South Dakota: 27-Foot Tall Buffalo Bill
A full-color fiberglass statue of the famous frontiersman, clad in his frilled buckskins. Built in 1967, stood in Sioux Falls for decades, moved cross-state to this location in 2021.

This statue was originally near Wall, where it was known as "General Custer," but it was taken down at some point. We saw it last fall in Wasta and it looks like it is in really good condition. Right off of Interstate 90.

[Travis Fulk, 01/24/2006]Amended to Buffalo Bill Cody from an earlier ID as General George Custer. General Custer is usually in uniform -- and surrounded.
August 2008: The land formerly occupied by Cody's Tavern and Grill has been leveled, and the Giant Buffalo Bill Statue is gone. It was reportedly purchased and trucked to a ranch in Renner, only three miles north of here. The statue was reported lying prone on the property in late 2007.
