Sirena the Crying Indian Mermaid
The bronze mermaid -- and her catfish husband -- sat in Salado Creek for 30 years. In 2016, after several damaging floods, she was moved to higher, less waterlogged location.

The Legend of Sirena
I didn't remember if I ever saw the mermaid in Salado Creek. She has since moved to a new location, high and dry, away from the creek, on the south side of the Main Street bridge in Pace Park.

Sirena is high and dry. She got washed away so often from the creek they moved her to a safer (but not nearly as nice) location.

It's down in a gorgeous creek, perfect for a day trip with lunch, and the town is perfect for walking around and day shopping.
[Jared, 11/25/2012]Still gone - August 2011. Spoke with a shop owner that said the statue was lost down the creek during a flood. It was later found and is being repaired. ETA of return is not known.
