Rising out of the cornfields in central New York is a Russian Orthodox Church Abroad Monastery, complete with golden domes and a graveyard with Russian-style crosses. It is certainly unexpected in this area of the state!
The sign by the entrance states "1. Anyone wearing shorts should not enter these grounds. 2 Women wearing pants are requested not to enter the church. 3. To enter the church ask community members for assistance."
While we did not enter the church, the UPS driver (dressed in shorts) made his delivery to the building adjacent to the church, so apparently that is permitted.
