"Seal" was the University of Virginia's beloved dog mascot, and was buried with honors (and a headstone) in the campus cemetery.

A little hard to find. The gravestones are near the south edge of the cemetery property, to the right of the brick wall as you approach the cemetery from the circular drive.

One of the most staid institutions of higher education in the US, the University of Virginia, has buried an old mascot in its cemetery in Charlottesville, Virginia. Both his life and funeral are described in Virginius Dabney's "University of Virginia." Seal once urinated on an opposing cheerleader's megaphone during a football game.
