Bug House - Spaceship House

This is the private residence of Bart Prince. Although not open to the public, his studio is in the front and the home next door is his personal art gallery that includes some Frank Lloyd Wright pieces along with other drawings, sculptures, and paintings that he has collected. Bart Prince is known for his organic style of architecture. He was a student and assistant to Bruce Goff.

In 1963 Goff, a pioneer of "free architecture," erected the odd-looking Goff Towers in Roland, Oklahoma.

Bug House-Spaceship House

This house was designed by Bart Prince, a protege of Frank Lloyd Wright. It is in wonderful shape and the dinosaur "guards" are still out front. It is a bit difficult to see from the front due to the bushes, but if you go down the side street to the left, you can see a wonderful view of its profile. Be sure to notice the stairs leading to the chimney/turret in the center. The stairway "rails" are vertical shafts.

The neighboring house is very interesting, too. Very angular. The gates to both houses are cleverly designed.

Dinosaurs.

Spaceship House Dinosaurs

Unlike the spaceship/bug house at 3501 Monte Vista Blvd., which is mostly obscured by trees and a high fence, these two dinosaurs are in front of the fence next to the sidewalk.

A new house has been built next door to the spaceship house. It is all angles instead of curves, but still has the same cantilevered style.

It's cool, and super-easy to find.
