Big Orange

I visited on March 14, 2021, but the Big Orange was no longer there. An October 2020 article in The Reporter said that the Big Orange has been moved to the Dixon Fairgrounds, but I didn't go poking around the fairgrounds to find the exact new location.

[Henry Muller, 03/28/2021]

The town hopes to have the Big Orange restored in time for the annual fair in May, although at the time of the move it was noted that the giant fruit was "in terrible shape."

Big Orange

No longer operating as a Mr. Taco. Boarded up. Parking lot blocked off with large poles. Vacant, but still clean and painted.

Orange stand.

Giant Orange

A giant orange stand, formerly George's Orange, and now operating as Mr. Taco, a Mexican Restaurant. One of the few remaining giant orange stands still in California.

[Phil Pasquini, 09/03/2006]

Remnant of the Giant Orange chain -- the first orange-shaped business was built by Frank E. Pohl in 1926 and multiple versions franchised in the early 1930s. Giant oranges peaked with about 16 stands in California, and lost their fresh orange juice highway pull-off appeal by the 1970s.
